Tom Rochioli’s old vine 2006 Sauvignon Blanc possesses crisp, melon and fig-like notes, fresh acidity, and medium body. While it does not reveal the intensity and richness of some previous vintages, it is an excellent white to enjoy over the next several years.In 2006, there is even a smaller amount of wine from Tom Rochioli than usual. Yields were so small and there was so little wine from the Three Corner Vineyard that it was blended with the East Block Pinot. Rochioli sells the majority of the fruit from their 140 acres of vineyards in the Russian River to other producers, which I find remarkable given the quality of what winemaker Tom Rochioli is able to achieve in addition to his superb vineyard sites.Tel. Off a bit from the ’05, but still a good wine, this Sauvignon Blanc shows fresh minty lemongrass, melon, green grass and fennel flavors, backed up with firm acids and, as always, very dry.——S.H.(9/1/2007)—— 86
