This wine is gorgeous on all fronts. The 2011 Sicilia Contea di Sclafani Rosso del Conte Tenuta Regaleali is based on Nero d'Avola but has percentages of Perricone and other grapes mixed into the blend. The wine is aged in new barrique for 18 months. The results are elaborate and opulent, starting with a full throttle bouquet of dark fruit and exotic spice. The quality of fruit is sweet, plush and recalls the sunny climate of Sicily. But there is excellent complexity here with grilled herb, dark mineral and licorice. The tannins are beautifully managed and sweet. It offers a delicious taste of Sicily.
