The 2000 Barolo Margheria is a touch more forward than the Parafada, but also shows the more traditional arc of development I expect in a wine of its age. Smoke, tar, leather and licorice are some of the nuances that emerge from this beautifully delineated Barolo. There is still plenty of freshness in the fruit to balance the early tertiary notes that have begun to appear. Silky tannins frame a finish that turns juicy and immensely rewarding. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2020. Massolino is an excellent source for traditional wines from Serralunga. At the time these wines were made, the Parafada was the only wine that saw French oak, all the others were aged in cask. The flagship 2000 Riserva from the Vigna Rionda vineyard was reviewed in Issue 192.

Lots of earthy, gamy, ripe fruit aromas. Decadent. Then turns floral. Pure fruit. Violets. Full-bodied, with firm tannins and a foursquare sort of structure. Rich and firm. Best after 2009. 800 cases made, 200 cases imported.??–JS??Region: Italy / Piedmont / Barolo Select to Add
