The estate’s The 2005 Lamaione (Merlot) offers up tons of super-ripe, jammy dark fruit, truffles, French oak and licorice. The wine possesses tons of depth and richness, although the finish closes with a perceptible note of sweetness that is distracting. I admit I find the style here rather perplexing, as there is little varietal or regional character to be found. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2015.
