The 2006 Poggio Valente (Sangiovese, Alicante) is a beautiful version of this wine. Well-articulated aromatics lead to layers of vibrant dark fruit, minerals, licorice, French oak and new leather. Medium to full in body, the 2006 Poggio Valente possesses considerable energy and precision in a powerful, brooding style that needs a few more years of bottle age to fully emerge. This is a wonderful effort from Elisabetta Geppetti. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2026.

Offers prune and ripe, crushed black fruit, with hints of violet and oak. Full and well-structured, with firm, fruit-coated tannins and a long, tasty finish. Fruity and fresh now, but a little chewy. Slightly Amarone-like. Best after 2009.
