A blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, the dense purple-hued 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon offers attractive aromas of creme de cassis along with super intensity, but not the subtlety, complexity, or suppleness of the 2005. It is a bigger, more structured wine with more rugged, noticeable tannins. While I have a slight preference for the 2005, this is an exceptional 2006. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2020. La Sirena is the personal project of Heidi Barrett, the well-known wine consultant and wife of Chateau Montelena’s Bo Barrett.
