Talley Vineyards has emerged as the star of the Arroyo Grande Valley, which is not surprising given the quality of their recent and current releases. For example, the 1994 Pinot Noir Estate possesses a healthy deep ruby color, as well as pure, moderately intense aromas of red and black fruits, and subtle oak. The wine's texture offers breadth of flavor, a suppleness, but no heaviness or intrusive acidity or tannin. It is an expressive, high class Pinot Noir that should drink well for 5-7 years. The 1994s are the finest Pinot Noirs I have tasted from Talley, high praise in view of their already laudable record.
