The 2011 Murviedro Expresión Solidarity Cuvée is a blend of 55% Monastrell and 45% Garnacha that carries the Valencia appellation. The two grapes are fermented separately with commercial yeasts in stainless-steel vats and are assembled after malolactic before aging 14 months in new American oak barrels. The nose is quite balanced with the creamy oak notes not too invasive and in fact they marry quite well as lactic and spicy aromas with the ripe black fruit. Even if it's difficult to guess the grape varieties or place, it's a pleasant Mediterranean red. The palate is medium-bodied with polished tannins and a slightly bitter finish where you can detect some more toasty flavors. It comes in a heavy and bulky bottle. The "solidarity" part of the label is to support The Cruyff Foundation that promotes sport as part of a children's health initiative throughout the world. 6,000 bottles produced.
