A well-structured wine with fine fruit-acid balance, this has a quite dry dark berry core accented on the nose by smoky oak, anise and tarragon notes. Licorice and leather add palate interest, and firm, drying tannins show on the finish. The medium ruby-colored 1999 Shiraz Kumkani has a nose reminiscent of blackberry jam and cookie dough. This medium-bodied Cabernet lover's Shiraz is crammed with oak-infused black fruits, mostly cassis and blackberries. Its long finish reveals a trace of alcoholic heat. This is a great value.
