The 2017 Vermentino di Sardegna Chimera does a great job of presenting the varietal character of the grape along with some of the wild sage and salty aromas that you get with Mediterranean-island winemaking. The hot vintage conditions of 2017 have helped to amplify those aromas of peach and pear, setting the table for a classic Sardinian plate of calamari stuffed with anchovies, bread crumbs, garlic and parsley. Vines for this wine were planted in faraway 1965 to 1975 in loose, sandy soils.

The easy-going 2013 Vermentino di Sardegna Chimera is not your standard white wine from Sardinia. Compared to the other washed-out versions, Chimera offers a lot more intensity and aromatic layering. It does't see oak aging, but it offers a bigger, bolder style nonetheless. Drink this wine over the next 24 months.

Soletta’s 2010 Vermentino di Sardegna Chimera is quite unusual for this indigenous variety. An intense, textured white, the Chimera blossoms in the glass with orange blossoms, exotic flowers and sweet spices.
