The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (a 1,000+ case cuvee from five separate sites) is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon (about 70% new French oak is used), and the consulting winemaker is Paul Hobbs. The 2007 exhibits a dense purple color as well as a beautiful bouquet of blueberries, blackberries, incense, licorice and pen ink. Full-bodied, concentrated and powerful, with silky tannins and an exuberant, flashy style, it should drink well for 10-15 years. This small, high quality boutique producer makes Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the Russian River area as well as some exceptionally fine Cabernet Sauvignon from various vineyards in Napa.Tel. The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is slightly more rustic, masculine, and backward with harder tannins, but none of the charm or velvety personality of the 2005. A new offering, Nomad, comes from the Beckstoffer George III Vineyard, which was originally planted in 1928 by Georges de Latour for Beaulieu’s Private Reserve program. This high-class operation boasts Paul Hobbs as its consulting winemaker. The dark ruby/purple-tinged 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals sweet creme de cassis notes interwoven with notions of smoke, toast, licorice, and loamy soil. In the mouth, the wine is full-bodied, with pure fruit, a multilayered mouthfeel, and an elegant, velvety finish. It should drink well for 10-15 years.
