The estate’s 2010 Thilion Alghero is another rich, textured wine. Almonds, honey, peaches and apricots are woven into the large-scaled, opulent finish. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2015. The 2009 Alghero Thilion is 50% Torbato and 50% Sauvignon fermented in oak. All of the elements come together beautifully in this textured white. The oak is deftly balanced, while the Sauvignon provides the aromatic lift that keeps the wine lively. Sweet but unobtrusive notes from the oak linger on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2016. The 2008 Alghero Thilion (Torbato, Sauvignon) is an impeccable, richly-textured wine. Sauvignon seems to dominate, especially in the bouquet. Seamless and opulent, but never heavy, the Thilion reveals a gorgeous core of intense yellow fruits, spices, mint and minerals that come together with unusual grace. Floral notes inform the delicate finish. This is another beautiful white from Sella e Mosca. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015. Sella e Mosca is one of the oldest and best-known wineries in Sardinia. Curiously, many of the estate’s wines rely on international grapes, something that sets Sella e Mosca apart from the vast majority of wineries on the island. The estate’s 2007 Thilion is equal parts Torbato and Sauvignon that spends four months in French oak. This is another beautiful wine loaded with personality. The Sauvignon is mostly felt in the wine’s floral, minty aromas, while the oak adds an extra dimension of richness and volume while keeping varietal expression intact. The 2006 Thilion (Torbato and Sauvignon) presents bright, high-toned notes of jasmine, lime and peaches. This lush, suave white should drink well over the next few years. Anticipated maturity:2008-2010. Sella e Mosca’s history goes back all the way to the 19th century. Even though the estate produces a large quantity of wine, quality is quite high especially among these selections.
