When I tasted this wine, the nose was slightly shut down and never fully opened to its fullest potential. The 2016 Vermentino di Sardegna Cala Silente shows drying mineral tones and touches of flint or granite stone. There is a very thin veil of white peach and citrus at the back. Considering the otherwise vibrant nature of this grape, the effect here is straightforward and lean with reduced overall intensity.

The 2010 Vermentino di Sardegna Cala Silente is another super-impressive white layered with fruit. The Cala Silente is 100% Vermentino. Varietal character comes through loud and clear in this elegant, first-class white. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015. From top to bottom this is an impressive set of wines from Shardana.
