Young, super-dry and sharp in acids, with a wintergreen streak to the tannic cherryskin flavors. Oak provides much needed relief, in the form of smoky, sweet richness. Tasted in early Spring, this Pinot was dark, jammy and resistant, as if it were shyly hiding its pleasures beneath a cloak of tannin and acidity. The 2001 Pinot Noir La Rinconada Vineyard’s dark saturated purple color is accompanied by painfully high acidity that makes the wine virtually impossible to appreciate. There is plenty going on, but the acids rarely change, so this offering will only be enjoyed by acid freaks.
