The 2007 Triumphal Arch Light Pass Grenache (100 cases) is also light pink-colored. The nose reveals super-expressive notes of garrigue, spice box, cherry, and strawberry. Smooth, succulent, and flavorful, this effort has a bit of structure and is likely to evolve for 1-2 years. Nicely balanced and lengthy, this is a sexy expression of Grenache for drinking over the next eight years. Chateau Chateau is a label created by importer Dan Philips and marketed under the R Wines umbrella. Its stated purpose is to demonstrate the effects of soil and place on Grenache (and blends) from the best terroirs in Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale. The Barossa Reserve wines are limited production cuvees, most of them under 150 cases. The 2006 Triumphal Arc Grenache from the Light Pass sub-region was sourced from 40-year-old vines and aged for 14 months in second-use French oak. Dark ruby-colored, it has an alluring bouquet of cedar, spice box, tobacco, sage, strawberry, and black cherry. It is sweeter, richer, and more fruit-driven than the Chateau Grenache bottling. Very intense, layered, plush and long, it will drink well through 2021. The Chateau Chateau series was created to highlight distinct sub regions and vineyards of Barossa Valley Grenache. Each wine features a label inspired by the work of M.C. Escher.
