Silvia Prieler’s 2007 Pinot Blanc Seeberg displays so much primary fruit – apple and sweet corn – and such richness that one imagines residual sugar when in fact none is present. She professes no clue as to why this rendition of Seeberg shows such pronounced youthful fruitiness. There is also the usual creamy richness of texture allied to refreshment, the hazelnut, and, in its long finish, a savory, scallop-like note reminiscent of Chablis. Let this wine show off at table and you will be amazed by its versatility. It can also be cellared for a decade or more, and I am sure that the 2007 has yet to reveal its full complexity. (The Prieler 2007 Leithaberg Pinot Blanc was very slow to complete fermentation and be bottled, and I did not yet have a chance to taste it.)
