The 1994 and 1995 Vignettes represent the first two vintages of Merryvale's proprietary white wine. Primarily a Sauvignon Blanc-based wine (70%-75%) with the balance Semillon, the wine is barrel-fermented and bottled early to preserve its freshness. The first two vintages are very good wines. The 1995 Vignette reveals a more honeyed, riper, melony character, dry, medium-bodied flavors, good purity, and plenty of length. It is a classy, judiciously wooded wine with fine elegance. The 1994 Vignette possesses slightly higher acidity, as well as some of the melony ripeness of the 1995, but it is more restrained and subtle. The finish is reassuringly crisp and pure.
