A blend of 49% Grenache, 47% Syrah, and 2% each Petite Sirah and Viognier, the 2020 Mountain Red Monte Rosso Vineyard features scents of cherries, nutmeg and a lovely sprinkling of other dried spices. No, it's not overly concentrated, but this medium to full-bodied effort is charming, nicely complex and silky textured. Drink it over the next several years.

A Rh?ne-style blend off Monte Rosso, the 2019 Mountain Red Monte Rosso Vineyard is a blend of 68% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 2% Zinfandel, aged 20 months in French oak (77% new). The result is gently smoky, herbal and peppery, with primary fruit notes of cherries and red plums. Full-bodied and supple but nicely concentrated, this effort finishes long and silky, with hints of dark chocolate and espresso.

A blend of Syrah and Grenache with a deep garnet-purple color, the 2018 Mountain Red Monte Rosso Vineyard offers up fragrant scents of stewed plums, blackberry compote and black cherries with hints of licorice, tar and unsmoked cigars plus a waft of lilacs. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with juicy black fruit and savory layers and supported by ripe rounded tannins and seamless freshness, finishing on a peppery note. 730 cases were made.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Mountain Red Monte Rosso Vineyard—composed of 65% Syrah, 23% Petite Sirah and 12% Grenache—has a wonderfully fragrant nose of warm black cherries, kirsch and black raspberries with hints of red roses, garrigue, fallen leaves and spice cake. Full-bodied and generously fruited, the palate has loads of savory layers and a chewy texture, finishing with an array of earthy sparks. 690 cases were made.

The 2016 Mountain Red Monte Rosso Vineyard is blended of 48% Petite Sirah, 32% Zinfandel, 16% Syrah and 4% Malbec, aged in new French (57%) and American (13%) oak. Deep garnet-purple colored, it opens with blackcurrant, blackberry and tar scents with touches of fertile loam and sautéed herbs. Full, firm and concentrated, it has a chewy texture and long, savory finish. 700 cases produced.
