The 2011 Weemala Gewurztraminer offers up a textbook nose of lychees and baking spices with a tropical fruit and honeydew melon undercurrent. Medium to full-bodied, dry and with plenty of expressive spiced lychee flavor, it has a pleasantly viscous texture and refreshing acid, finishing long. Drinking nicely now, it should keep to 2014. “We want to make a summer Gewurztraminer with fresh, clean aromatics, in a dry style, without tasting like perfume,” Peter Logan explained to me during our tasting. His 2009 Weemala Gewurztraminer delivers with pronounced textbook aromas of litchi and spice, plus supporting scents of honey and jasmine. Medium acidity is nicely balanced by the faintest touch of sweetness (5.7 g/l RS). Long finish with a little minerality. Superb value for lovers of this grape. Drink now to 2014.
