Sourced from the lesser parcels of the Rothenberg, Hipping and Petthenthal and picked early in September, the 2022 Riesling trocken vom Roten Schiefer displays a golden-yellow color and opens with a clear and spicy/herbal bouquet with light reduction and phenolic notes. Elegant and fresh on the palate, this is a round yet dry and structured Riesling with a quite long, elegant, shiny and saline finish. This 2022 is lean and fresh and should be cellared for at least another year or two, as complex and age-worthy as it is. This was entirely vinified in stainless steel. 11.5% stated alcohol. Screw cap. Tasted at the domaine in October 2023.

From the Rothenberg, Pettenthal and Hipping "grand crus" and vinified in stainless steel until late winter, the 2021 Riesling trocken vom Roten Schiefer offers a clear, pure and refined, bright and flinty Riesling bouquet with notes of red stones. Light but lush and round on the palate, this is an elegant, refined and crystalline as well as saline dry Riesling bottled with 12% stated alcohol. An excellent estate wine with the red slope character. Screw-cap closure. Tasted at the domaine in August 2022.

Johannes Hasselbach's Estate Wine 2019 Riesling trocken vom Roten Schiefer is clear and fresh and reveals aromatic, herbal-laced fruit with crystalline slate notes. Very elegant, pure and crystalline on the palate, this is a very fresh and puristic Riesling that comes along pretty sour even for my nordic taste, despite some grams of residual sugar and a quite creamy or smooth texture. This is a very crisp, if at all just ripe Riesling. You have to love this pure, straight, mercilessly lean and refreshing style or will have to find a smoother alternative. 12% alcohol. Tasted from AP 5-20 in May 2020.
