It's a bunny rabbit of wine. It's wearing its softest clothes and has the sweetest disposition, all musk and black/red berries playing easily through the wine. It's a bit of an act, there is some tannin, but it keeps the mood friendly at all times.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2011 Luna Roja Tempranillo is scented of warm black plums, mulberries and blueberry preserves with hints of tobacco leaf and dusty earth. Medium-bodied, it offers just enough warm black berry flavor in the mouth with a medium level of velvety tannins, medium to high balanced acid and a long finish. Drink it now to 2016. 2009 Luna Roja Tempranillo gives a medium garnet-purple color and some reduced rubber and tar notes that soon give way to black cherry, warm strawberry, earth and cardamom. Crisp with a medium-high level of chewy, somewhat coarse tannins, this full-bodied Tempranillo has plenty of red berry flesh and a long finish. Drink it now and over the next 4-5 years. Gemtree is high on the Tempranillo grape and it shows in the 2008 Luna Roja Tempranillo, a wine aged for 12 months in seasoned French oak. Purple-colored, it displays a slightly brooding bouquet of cigar box, Asian spices, Dr. Pepper, and black cherry. Elegant on the palate with a bit of underlying structure, this savory, spicy effort will evolve for 1-2 years and offer prime drinking from 2011 to 2019. Gemtree makes wine from estate-grown fruit (as they move toward fully biodynamic and organic farming). Gemtree also manages 1500 acres for other growers and sells some of their own grapes to other wineries.
