The 2012 Tempranillo has a classical nose that made me think of some Riojas, perhaps because of the nine months in American oak barrels. There is a hint of dill over a core of blackberries and spices. I looked at last year's notes and I wrote basically the same! How about that for consistency? Nice balance and fine tannins. This one gets the lion share with 174,000 bottles.

The varietal 2011 Tempranillo was sourced from a vineyard planted in 1992 on shallow clay soils and was machine harvested at night. The grapes fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and the wine matured in American oak barrels. With the American oak and Tempranillo aromas it made me think of a young traditional Rioja, with those minty/dill undertones and core of ripe berries. It has balsamic flavors, with some rustic tannins and personality, still approachable and easy to drink. This would do well with food. 174,000 bottles were produced.

The 2009 Tempranillo has a light nose of baked cherries and licorice. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy, ripe tannins, layers of succulent red fruit, and a pleasing, controlled finish that maintains a modicum of freshness. Drink now.
