Feudi della Medusa’s 2007 Isola dei Nuraghi Gerione is fabulous. It boasts stunning richness and depth, with seemingly endless layers of dark fruit, spices, licorice, leather and tobacco that come together in the glass. The style is decidedly ripe and opulent, but at the same time, the Gerione is beautifully balanced. It should drink well for another decade or so. The 2006 Isola dei Nuraghi Gerione is a huge, explosive wine packed with black fruit, leather, licorice, tar and spices, all of which come together in a broad-shouldered, expansive style. The super-ripe black fruit builds impressively towards the rich, opulent finish. Gerione is 35% Bovale Sardo, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Franc. Violets, grilled herbs, smoke, cured meats, new leather, spices, blueberry jam and French oak are melded together in a compelling, seamless style. Deceptively medium in body, the wine possesses awesome richness and a long, ringing finish. This is a great effort from Isola dei Nuraghi. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019.
