The 2009 Manero is a blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot. It shows good juiciness and depth in its dark red fruit in a fresh, vinous style best enjoyed on the young side. This is the first wine Riccardo Cotarella has produced for Fattoria del Cerro. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014. The estate’s 2003 Manero 100% Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese) spent 12 months in French oak. It is a bold, vibrant wine loaded with dark cherries, licorice, earthiness and toasted oak. Despite the warmth of the vintage, the wine retains superb freshness and fine overall balance, with remarkably finessed tannins. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2018. The 2001 Manero is made from the estate’s finest Sangiovese and is a 100% varietal wine. An inky, impenetrable ruby, its potent aromas of plums, raspberry liqueur, and vanilla detonate with maximum impact and sweetness on the nose while the palate is overwhelmed by the rich and solid flavors and a dense, plushy, ripe texture with ample smoky, mineral, and red fruit notes.
