The 2007 Les Sorts Vinyes Velles is the same blend as the 2006 as well as the same elevage. Mineral, underbrush, spice box, a hint of balsamic, and assorted black fruits compose the bouquet of this spicy, well-balanced, lengthy wine. Like the 2006 it will benefit from another 2-3 years of cellaring and drink well through 2019 if not longer. Celler El Masroig is the largest cooperative winery in Montsant. The 2006 Les Sorts Vinyes Velles is composed of 50% Samso, 35% Garnacha, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 15 months in new French oak. Earthy minerals, Asian spices, incense, violets, plum, and black cherry aromas lead to a ripe, savory, plush wine with impeccable balance and length. It is likely to evolve for 2-3 years and will deliver prime drinking from 2013 to 2018. Celler El Masroig is the largest cooperative winery in Montsant. The 2005 Les Sorts Vinyes Velles is a blend of 50% Carinena, 35% Garnatxa, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in 80% new, mostly French oak. Dark ruby-colored, it has an alluring nose of wood smoke, liquid mineral, forest floor, spice box, blueberry, and black cherry. Elegant on the palate, it has loads of spicy cherry fruit with a hint of chocolate in the background, silky tannin, and a lengthy finish.
