The 2021 Syrah Eddie's Patch was vinified with about 30% whole bunches and matured in about 25% new 300- and 500-liter barrels. Deep ruby in color, it has classic aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry, mint chocolate, juniper, grilled meats and graphite. The full-bodied palate is concentrated yet light on its feet with its energetic acidity and rounded tannins, and all that freshness draws out its floral perfume on the long finish. I love this elegant style that offers generosity with restrained ripeness.

The 2018 Syrah Eddie's Patch is deep ruby-purple in the glass with a nose of blackcurrants, cocoa, bay leaves and grilled meats. The palate is full-bodied with ripe fruits that are grainy and fresh, and it finishes lifted.

The 2017 Syrah Eddie's Patch was aged 16 months in 40% new Ermitage and Atelier hogsheads. It's deep ruby-purple colored and scented of coffee bean, lilac, smoked meats, graphite, garrigue and peppery touches on the nose, with impenetrable ripe black cherry and currant fruit at the core plus red berry sparks, soil and fried sage notes. It's full-bodied with gobs of savory-laced, ripe black fruits in the mouth framed by very ripe, pixelated tannins and great freshness, finishing very long and layered. 320 cases produced.

The 2016 Syrah Eddie’s Patch displays a deep garnet-purple color, with notes of blackberries, blueberries and plums plus hints of espresso, fertile earth, smoked meats, Indian spices and violets. Medium to full-bodied, the palate reveals a built-like-a-brick-house structure with ripe, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing with lots of exotic spice layers on the finish.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Syrah Eddie’s Patch gives up loads of blackcurrants, blackberries and blueberry compote scents with touches of mocha, Sichuan pepper, hoisin and black olives. Medium to full-bodied, it has a taut frame of rounded tannins supporting restrained, earthy characters, culminating in a long pepper-laced finish.
