The fruit-driven and straightforward 2021 Baltos Mencía is a light red that has 13.5% alcohol and is fresh and easy to drink, with moderate ripeness and oak. It matured in French and American oak barrels for six months. It is varietal and has a commercial profile. 100,000 bottles produced.

The young, approachable, floral and varietal 2016 Baltos Mencía is fruit-driven, clean and approachable, combining aromas of berries, licorice and earth. The palate is soft and balanced, with fine tannins. This is very easy to drink and perfect for the by-the-glass market. 80,000 bottles produced.

The red 2015 Baltos Mencía matured for a short time in oak and has a young and approachable profile. The fruit is ripe without excess, clean and pleasant, with a medium-bodied palate, a soft texture and a focused finish. 80,000 bottles produced.

There is a wide range of red wines here, starting with the 2013 Baltos, pure Mencía fermented with whole berries to achieve a semi-carbonic maceration effect. The élevage lasted six months and was in French and American oak barrels. There are plenty of spices, vanilla, cinnamon and also dill, roasted coffee and acid berries intermixed with something herbal, quite fresh, denoting a cool vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with nice acidity, fresh fruit and a good finish. Easy, pleasant to drink. This is very good value for what it is. 85,000 bottles produced.

The entry-level red 2012 Baltos is old vine Mencía fermented in 25,000-liter stainless steel vats and aged for six months in a mixture of French and American used barrels. It feels very ripe (for the vintage) and a little advanced (for its age), with notes of damsons and cooked apples with cinnamon thrown in. The palate is medium-bodied, with sweet spice flavors and ripe black fruit, with a commercial profile. It feels like the nose is more advance than the palate. 80,000 bottles produced.
