The 2010 Fastaia wraps around the palate with juicy, expressive fruit. This Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Petit Verdot blend is soft, texured and beautifully balanced. Raspberry jam, spices, and sage linger on the full-bodied, intense finish. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2016. Ceuso is one of my favorite estates in Sicily. The 2009 Fastaia is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Petit Vertot that spent 18 months in cement prior to being bottled. Bold, racy fruit finds a counterpoint in the firm yet well-integrated tannins as the wine opens up in the glass. A blast of dark fruit, herbs, smoke and licorice adds nuance on the finish. Ceuso’s Fastaia is one of the great values in Italian wine and it is once again superb in 2008. Fastaia, a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot aged in cement is essentially the second wine of the estate’s top of the line Ceuso. Gorgeous, well-delineated aromatics lead to ripe, dark fruit, grilled herbs, spices and cassis in a rich, yet beautifully balanced style. The fruit covers the tannins through to the long finish. The 2007 Fastaia is a rich, powerful wine loaded with the essence of mocha, spices, grilled herbs and dark fruit. The sumptuousness of the fruit carries through to the long, refined finish where a burst of blackberries, spices and new leather add the final layers of complexity. Readers who want to explore Ceuso’s wines without spending a fortune should start here. This is a fabulous wine for the money.
