The Talamonti 2017 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Aternum is made from clones that were sourced at the neighboring Valentini estate (probably the most famous producer of this versatile white grape). Talamonti, however, offers a refreshingly open and transparent expression of the variety, with fruit harvested from a one-hectare plot with 45-year-old vines. The finished wine ages in both French oak (or 30% of the total wine does) and stainless steel for seven months. That aging regime hits all the right buttons, allowing for plenty of yellow peach and summer melon, along with some pretty background shadings of toasted almond and spice. It's a great summer wine alongside a salad and shrimp cocktail. With 9,000 bottles made, this wine is a terrific buy.

The 2011 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Aternum is an impressive effort that shows the great versatility of the grape. In fact, Trebbiano is known for its amazing adaptability and that's what makes it one of the most popular grape varieties in central and southern Italy. The bouquet is redolent of ripe peach, honeysuckle, yellow rose and blanched almond. This is a medium-bodied effort with good persistency and pretty aromas of dried Mediterranean herb and sage on the finish.
