The medium-ruby 2018 Farrside Pinot Noir is just another exhibit in the case that color intensity and flavor intensity—particularly in Pinot Noir—have little to do with one another. The wine features complex aromas of black tea, roses, grilled plums and fresh raspberries, and those notes are repeated on the medium-bodied palate. There's a bit more expansiveness to this wine compared to the Sangreal, and the tannins are even silkier here, but quality-wise the two wines are basically equivalent.

The current release, By Farr's 2015 Farrside Pinot Noir is by turns dark and brooding and bright and fresh. It almost seems to depend which sip one takes. Is it black cherries or raspberries? Earthy and meaty or red-fruited and pure? That's the level of well-integrated complexity boasted by this exceptional wine. It's medium-bodied and solidly built, with firm but ripe tannins that softly frame the fruit, dressed up with hints of French oak. Already approachable, it should easily age through 2025.

The cherry and cranberry flavors are tangy and crisp, with accents of rich, loamy earth, orange peel and spice. Elegant and restrained through the long finish. Drink now through 2026. 500 cases made, 14 cases imported.??–MW??Region: Australia / Victoria / Geelong Select to Add

Pale to medium ruby colored with a hint of purple, the 2012 Farrside Pinot Noir offers a beautiful nose of kirsch, warm cranberries and pomegranate with nuances of lavender and wild thyme. Light to medium-bodied and exquisitely elegant in the mouth, it gives a great intensity of perfumed red berry flavors structured with very fine tannins and just enough acidity before finishing with great length.

Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, the 2010 Farrside Pinot Noir is scented of black cherries, charcoal, earth, lavender, black pepper and tree bark with an appealing herbal lift. Very clean and pure in the medium-bodied mouth, it has a low to medium level of grainy tannins, lively acid and a long finish. Drinking well now, it should keep to 2018+.
