The 2000 Chardonnay Marcella's Vineyard is reminiscent of a Louis Latour Batard-Montrachet. It manages to hide its 15% alcohol. The wine is full-bodied, with amazing texture, great ripeness as well as richness, and a distinctive minerality underpinning the fruit and texture. This is a sensational effort. This is a wine of two up and coming California superstars. Don't miss it. The super-rich 1998 Chardonnay Marcella's Vineyard (named after Fess Parker's wife) is produced from microscopic yields of .8-.9 tons of fruit per acre. The high alcohol (15.3%) is totally hidden by the wine's acidity, intense flavor, and abundant honeyed grapefruit, tangerine and other tropical fruit characteristics. Pure, long, and refreshing, this terrific, ageworthy Chardonnay may continue to evolve for a decade or more. Impressive! The 1996 Chardonnay Marcella's (named after Fess Parker's wife) offers an intriguing nose of roasted hazel nuts, and smoky, lemony, tropical fruit. Medium to full-bodied, ripe, and rich. It should drink well for several more years.This wine, made from low yields, is both unfined and unfiltered, with well-integrated acidity. As is often the case, Brewer-Clifton's hand-crafted wines are only available in small quantities. Nevertheless, they are worth knowing about.
