An excellent Zinfandel, Benziger's dark ruby/purple-colored 1995 displays textbook aromas of pepper, spice, and black-cherries. Deeply-etched, full-bodied flavors possess excellent purity, and plenty of varietal character. Benziger's 1994 Zinfandel had not been bottled when I tasted it, hence the range of scores. It exhibits a dark ruby/purple color, as well as a deep, spicy, lavishly-oaked nose. The attack offers gobs of ripe fruit, noticeable American oak notes, and a rich, medium-bodied, spicy style. There is plenty of Zinfandel varietal character displayed in this in-your-face Zin.
