This hot vintage has produced a thick and powerful expression of Sardinia's thin-skinned Nasco grape. Vintners must take care with the grape's naturally low yields and its tendency to produce highly alcoholic wines. This edition, the 2017 Nasco di Cagliari Iselis, for example, delivers 15% alcohol, which makes the wine appropriate for risotto, medium-aged cheeses and other foods with a more prominent fatty characteristic that needs breaking up. Otherwise, this pretty and unique wine shows orchard and tropical fruits with some nutty tones on the close.

The 2016 Nasco di Cagliari Iselis is a beautifully bright and luminous wine. It is a pleasure to behold. Nasco grapes are fermented in stainless steel, and a very small part of the wine is aged briefly in oak. The bouquet offers immediate intensity in the form of citrus, bergamot, honey and acacia flower. The mouthfeel is flowing, silky and long. Some 50,000 bottles were made.
