The dark ruby-colored 2001 Pinot Noir Lee Vineyard reveals new oak, underbrush, and compost notes along with black currant, cherry, and raspberry fruit. Medium-bodied and tart, but attractive as well as pure, it will drink well for 4-5 years. Tel. (707) 226-9991

There are 135 cases of this angular/sinewy-styled Pinot. Its deep plum/ruby color is accompanied by sweet notes of cherries, balsam wood, dried herbs, and toasty oak. If the tannin becomes resolved, it will prove better than my conservative score indicates.Except for masochists, readers will undoubtedly find the 2000 Pinot Noir Lee Vineyard too austere and tannic. The saturated dark ruby-colored, medium-bodied 1999 Pinot Noir Lee Vineyard is a suave, classy effort offering copious quantities of black cherry fruit intermixed with subtle oak and earth. It is reminiscent of a high class premier cru from the Cotes de Beaune. As in its siblings, the tannin, acidity, and new oak are beautifully integrated. It should drink well for 4-5 years.
