The saturated ruby/purple-colored 2001 The David (like the 2000, a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, and 26% Cabernet Franc) offers up a sweet bouquet of espresso beans, chocolate, blackberries, currants, and spice box. It is a deep, rich, medium to full-bodied effort with as much potential as the 2000, and perhaps more persistence. Dark, with ripe, rich, intense blackberry and wild berry, with a touch of cassis, this wine wins points for its plushness and concentration. The finish shows off firm, dry tannins, but they're in balance. Decant. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2005 through 2011. 395 cases made. -JL
